VICTORIAN UPPER HOUSE RESULTS SUMMARY ANALYSIS

Victorian State Election (November 25)
(Updated Saturday, December 23, 2006 6:45 )

Total: ALP 19, LIB 15, NP 2, GRN 3, DLP 1

NOTE: The Greens win a third seat in the Western Metropolitan Region at the expense of the ALP after recount shows 487 ballot papers less then the previous count.

Update:  In an extraordinary demonstration of how bad the VEC is and how poorly managed this count has been the VEC has reversed the count for Northern Metropolitan and Western Metropolitan due to a major stuff up in the data-entry processing with votes either missing or they double counted votes.

It was claimed that in Northern Victoria the VEC had keyed in 46666 instead of 40666.  Which goes to show that the VEC has not done its job properly.  Western Metropolitan shows a variance of between -478 to +1607 votes in the total number of votes recorded between the provisional count and the recount.

Did the VEC  not do a check comparison with the total number of votes issued/returned as is normally the case?

Had the VEC published the polling place return statistics, as is normally the case, this error should have been avoided. Question is the latest current count correct or did they make another stuff-up.

There should be a requirement that if the results of a recount produce a different outcome then the VEC should have to do a further recount until the overall result is the same.
